About Brian Green

Brian Green I picked up my first camera, an Ansco, in 1963, photographing neighborhood buddies and school trips. I received a Kodak Motormatic from my Grandma Amy when my grandfather died. You could wind it up and have a motorized camera, it felt like a real camera. I used a Rolliflex when I was in high school shooting for the Crescent at Wendell L. Willkie Highschool in Elwood, Indiana. That is where I began experimenting with double exposures. Working two jobs summer before I went off to college I purchased a used Konica with a 50mm, I still feel that was one of the sharpest lenses I've used. I started Ball State University as a Biology major and took art photography classes under Larry Graham. Bob Gwaltney talked me into shooting for the Ball State Daily News and I soon changed my major to Journalism-Photo sequence. I found a used Nikon Ftn with a 50mm F2 and I bought a 200mm so I could shoot sports. I then got a 28mm and 105mm. I now have a Nikon D300 and my favorite lens is my 105 micro, although my 80-400mm gets much use. While at Ball State I won a Pulitzer scholarship to the Missouri Workshop, received a First Place Color in The Indiana News Photographers Association, Honorable mention in the Nikon Nutshell Collegiate Photo Contest, and Ball State Photographer of the Year. Received a BS in Photojournalism in 1976 from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. I worked as a mural printer for 11 years at the Firehouse Color Lab, Indianapolis, two years for Thom Kondas in Indianapolis, Indiana and 23 years as a mural printer for National Geographic Imaging printing exhibits for William Albert Allard, Steve McCurry, Steve Winters, Chris Johns, George Steinmetz, George Diebold, Annie Griffiths-Belt, Jodi Cobb, Alexandria Avakian, Jim Blair, James Stanfield, David Doublet, Sisse Brimberg, Kenneth Garrett, Joel Sartre, Nick Nichols, Lou Mazzatena, Bruce Dale, Karen Kasmauski, Sarah Leen, Steven Alvarez, Ira Block, David Alan Harvey, Emory Kristof, Tom Abercrombie, Paul Neckline, Lynn Johnson, and Joanna Pinneo. I have been with National Geographic Creative for the past 13 I have shot for Revo, Johnson and Johnson, Swiss Embassy, and the Mexico Tourist Association. My images have appeared in Time, The Audubon Society, National Geographic Kids Magazine, National Geographic Books, Houghton-Millfin, Glimpse Magazine, and many educational publications and calendars.
